Well, London is about to get a whole lot cooler - with the City of London planning on upgrading their street lighting system in Westminster over the next four years.

They've committed to spend £3.25 million, which will see the city outfitted with 14,000 lights with new energy efficient versions. The new lights are dubbed "smart street lights" which will sport the ability to alert workers through an iPad app when they need to be repaired or replaced. Technicians will also have the ability to control the output of each light with the app.

The city council have said that their initial investment in the new iPad-controlled lights will be made back within seven years thanks to the energy efficiency of the new lights. The lights will reportedly save taxpayers £420,000 per year in energy bills starting in 2015.
