Criminals steal 3,600 iPad minis from JFK Airport

By: (more) | Mobile Devices, Tablets & Phones News | Posted: Nov 15, 2012 3:59 pm

The iPad mini may not have been something Steve Jobs would have wanted Apple to produce, but a team of thieves are probably grateful they exist as they were able to pull off quite the heist earlier this week as roughly around 3,600 iPad minis, worth around $1.5 million, were taken from a cargo building in JFK Airport.

The crime took place before midnight on Monday night at Building 261 as the thieves stole two pallets worth of iPad minis. The thieves used the airport's forklifts to move the pallets into a truck, but left behind three more pallets when an airport worker who was returning from dinner stumbled onto the crime.

The criminals are still at large and investigators believe this was an inside job and have begun to question airport workers, going as far as performing polygraph tests on three airport employees.

If criminals are able to get away with stealing merchandise from an airport like JFK, that should raise some serious questions as to the airport's security measures. Stealing merchandise is terrible, but a possible overnight terrorist would be way more devastating.
