Japanese automated bicycle parking garage deposits and retrieves your ride with little effort

By: (more) | Online Video News | Posted: Nov 28, 2012 4:00 pm

I'm not a bike owner, but I can imagine trusting your main form of transportation to a combination lock and an old tree might be nerve wracking when you're heading into a shop to purchase various items a bike rider may need. The last thing you want to return to when you're done shopping is a cut lock and your bike gone. Wouldn't the world be better if there was a bike locker of sorts where the user can deposit and retrieve their bike with the wave of a card? That's exactly what the Japanese have done.

In a video published by YouTube user acdcasic, we can see him using one of those fancy, shmancy automated bicycle underground parking garages we've all been dreaming of. The user waves his card in front of the sensor to have their bike retrieved and when the bike is deposited, the push of a button allows for the garage to grab your bike and park it underground.

A system like this would be something that bicycle riders in major cities would certainly appreciate as the last thing they would like to worry about is their bike getting stolen while they're out and about.
