Hackulous shuts down, Installous goes down with it, what will hacked iPhone owners do now?

By: (more) | Apps News | Posted: Dec 31, 2012 7:29 am

Plenty of people I know love their iPhone, but when pressed for what they love most, it's from a cracked feature coming from something like Installous and AppSync - well, those days are over, folks.

The Hackulous team have announced that they're shutting down, which will take down their most popular apps - the above-mentioned Installous and AppSync. This is the message the team left:

Goodnight, sweet prince.

We are very sad to announce that Hackulous is shutting down. After many years, our community has become stagnant and our forums are a bit of a ghost town. It has become difficult to keep them online and well-moderated, despite the devotion of our staff. We're incredibly thankful for the support we've had over the years and hope that new, greater communities blossom out of our absence.

With lots of love,

Hackulous Team

There are other developers out there that will take this news and run with it, opening up something similar - but Hackulous had a huge crowd behind them cheering them on. With BitTorrent being clamped down on, Usenet taking an arrow to the knee just weeks ago, and one of this years' biggest stories - MegaUpload being taken down - what's next for the piracy world?
