Let's face it - you own a smartphone, your mom owns a smartphone, and I'm guessing that even your Nanna owns a smartphone. Well, it looks like 2013 is set to be a mammoth year for smartphone shipments, with accounting and consulting firm Deloitte reporting that smartphone shipments will pass 1 billion units this year, with the total smartphone install base shifting into 2 billion consumers.

Deloitte have also made other predictions, which include the increased popularity of authentication methods that aren't passwords, 4G LTE adoption ramping up with a subscription base exceeding 200 million, and the continued dominance of the PC which accounts for over 80% of Internet traffic - even with the smart device market chomping on its heels.
