Mozilla unveils two developer phones for Firefox OS, meet 'Kenon' and 'Peak'

The mobile OS market is heating up this year with both Mozilla and Ubuntu looking to break down the strong hold Google's Android and Apple's iOS have on the market. Mozilla just revealed two new developer handsets from its partnership with Spanish startup Geeksphone.

The devices, named Kenon and Peak, are not power houses when compared to high-end Android devices, but they fall in line with Mozilla's plan to pursue low-end emerging markets. The Kenon is the lower of the two models, with a single-core Snapdragon running at 1GHz, a 480 x 320 HVGA touchscreen, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of onboard storage, a 3-megapixel camera and WiFi / 3G antennas.

The Peak is a little more "peppy" with a more powerful 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4, 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) display and an 8-megapixel camera. It includes the same 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. We have not seen any official pricing structures yet, but Geeksphone is saying that it'll arrive with a price tag "you could never have imagined".
