Evasi0n jailbreak sees itself installed on 1.7 million devices

Since its release just yesterday, the new iOS 6/6.1 untethered jailbreak, Evasi0n, has seen itself installed on over 1.7 million devices, showing continuing want and need for these jailbreaks and jailbreak teams. The jailbreak managed to be installed 800,000 times within the first six hours yesterday.

That's some incredible adoption, for a hack anyway. The mass jailbreaking put strain on Cydia's servers with roughly 1,200 downloads per minute. I know I had trouble with Cydia yesterday, but the wait was definitely worth it. If you have an iOS 6 device, you should consider jailbreaking the device.

Forbes talked with the Cydia appstore developer and found out why jailbreaks are rare:

According to David Wang, one of the evad3rs' four developers, the program takes advantage of at least five distinct, new bugs in iOS's code. (For reference, that's one more than Stuxnet, the malware built by the NSA to destroy centrifuges in Iran's nuclear enrichment facilities.)
