New Virus Warning - WORM_MSBLAST.A

By: (more) | Posted: Aug 12, 2003 7:37 am

A new worm style virus is quickly spreading around the world called LovSAN which exploits a part of the Windows OS which Microsoft left open.

I have been helping my sister with this virus for most of the day but it's a little hard to fix a problem when the worm constantly has the power to shut down your system. I think we finally have it under control with a patch from Microsoft which you will find below as well as information on the worm at TrendLabs, here. Patch up your systems now while you can!

TrendLabs has received several infection reports of this new worm, which exploits the RPC DCOM BUFFER OVERFLOW. This vulnerability in the Windows Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) Remote Procedure Call (RPC) interface allows an attacker to gain full access and execute any code on a target machine, leaving it compromised.
