AMD Athlon 64 confirmed for Sept 23 launch

By: (more) | Posted: Aug 25, 2003 12:42 pm

Many sources around the world wide web are saying that AMD will release their anticipated AMD64 desktop series, the singe-channel Athlon 64 at 2GHz and the dual-channel Athlon 64 FX, on the 23rd of September during Computex in Taiwan this year, which I think will be dominated by AMD. X-Bit labs has the update.

Currently AMD plans two Socket 754 processors this year: Athlon 64 3200+ and Athlon 64 3400+ clocked at 2.0 and 2.20GHz respectively. The 2.0GHz (3200+) part will be available immediately on the 23rd of September for approximately $400, whereas the 2.20GHz devices with 3400+ speed grade will come in October or November, unofficial sources claim.

The Athlon 64 FX in Socket 940 package and dual-channel DDR SDRAM memory controller will utilize a bit different branding method that still to be announced. In overall, I would expect 2.0GHz CPU to be available in late September for the rumoured price of roughly $700.
