Computex 2003 - XGI Benchmarking

By: (more) | Posted: Sep 22, 2003 2:47 am

Computex 2003 - Thanks to the wonders of Wi-Fi, we are live from Computex in Taiwan from XGI's suite in the Grand Hyatt where we have been taking a look at XGI's upcoming range of Volari graphics processors.

CP from XGI showed us their full range of products for Enthusiast, High-End and Mainstream markets. We were able to run a benchmark with XGI's most high-end product, Volari Duo which is a dual V8 Ultra based card. The card is targeted to compete directly with Radeon 9800 Pro and FX 5900 Ultra and will be available sometime in November at around the same costing as equivalent cards from competitors.

We tested the dual GPU card with Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz and ABIT IC7 MAX3 under 3DMark03 (the only benchmark we were allowed) and we found the results to be fairly impressive at this early stage. Considering XGI has only been operational for a little over 2 months, its amazing to see a product which is so stable and performing quite well even with less mature drivers. We are the first web media to post results, here you go;

As you can see, the early production dual GPU Volari Duo is performing quite nicely. Still slower then nVidia and ATI, but with drivers tweaks as their drivers become more mature, performance is expected to increase. We will have further information and pictures from the XGI suite later today in Day 1 of our Computex coverage.

Stay tuned!
