- Fur Fusion H845E 'SOHO'
Here we have yet another introduction into the realm of Small Form Factor machines. The monopoly Shuttle once had in this area with their range is slowly but surely deteriorating, competition never hurt noone now did it. The guys over at Walibe certainly know their stuff in this area and have written up an extensive 11 page review on the new Fur Fusion H845E. If you're thinking of setting up a HTPC or barebones system for laning etc. in the not too distant future, definitely don't rule this one out.
Well 2003 has truly been the year of the SFF Barebones. This year we have seen a record number of companies enter the SFF arena with existing companies expanding and improving their range beyond anything we might have expected. It seems Shuttle are no longer unstoppable, and the barebones market monopoly they once had seems to be on its way out.
So what is everyone using the SFF PCs for? Well in short everything. Uses range from HTPCs to LAN boxes to main machines. Nothing can beat a SFF Machine for so much power squeezed into so little space. After playing with a SFF Machine it becomes all too clear that the death of the Tower PC could be not that far away, and it seems even the big boys like Microsoft and HP would tend to agree. But, with so many barebones coming out, manufactures need to stand out, and say 'Hey! Look what we made!'. Some achieve it through their cooling solutions (Shuttles), some their multimedia functions (MSI) and others on their drive bays (Soltek). The ability to squeeze all the desktop essentials you'd find in a tower plus a whole ton of connections into these new SFF machines have slowly swayed many from their tower based PCs.
