Last night I switched on the news to hear of yet another 8 - 9 magnitude Earthquake in the same region which caused the horrible tsunamis back on Boxing Day last year. This time around only very tiny tsunamis were created (some even touched the North Western parts of Australia) but this time many hundreds died from falling buildings on a small island near the epicenter.

This got me thinking and I'm not sure if any software exists of this nature or not but one would think it would be a good idea for scientists and clever programmers to come together and create a piece of simulation software (no matter the development costs - governments should fund it without question) which advises building developers if their intended structure would be sound enough to withstand an Earthquake. Sure, this can't help older buildings but in areas which are commonly hit with quakes (most of Asia on a regular basis) it would surely help to save lives in the future.
