Micron goes DDR2-1066 at 78 nanometer

By: (more) | RAM News | Posted: May 7, 2007 10:15 am

Micron has announced a new range of DDR2-1066 memory chips manufactured with 78 nanometer process. The press release states native chipset support from AMD, VIA and SiS, but there's no mention of Intel or Nvidia. These new chips are available in 1 Gigabit sizes and will be used in modules ranging from 512MB to 2GB. You might wonder what the big deal is, as you can already get DDR2-1066 modules. Well, the difference between these new chips from Micron and current DDR2-1066 is the Voltage they operate at, as all current modules have to work outside of the 1.8V standard set by JEDEC. These new memory chips will operate at the standard Voltage at 533MHz or 1066MHz DDR. Samples are shipping now, but don't expect to see modules based on these chips until Q3 this year.
