Asuka Unveils Cableless External HD

By: (more) | Posted: Jul 26, 2007 11:53 pm

The folks over at Techpowerup have spotted something very interesting posted up on japanese website "acsii.jp". It's a 1.8" HDD which resembles that of a cell phone, it's designed to fit into a notebook's PCMCIA slot and supports the Cardbus 2.1 interface.

The HD32F will work in a multitude of OSs including Windows Vista/XP/2000 and even Mac OS X 10.1. It will be offered in two capacities, 20GB and 40GB. Pricing is said to be around $125 and $230 respectively.

The thing which caught my attention most about it though is its data transfer rate, reported to be around 1056 Mbps!

Details here folks.

Asuka (Aska) just released a 1.8-inch HDD that looks like a cell phone which slides into the card slot of your laptop and can transfer data at 1056 Mbps. The HD32F supports Cardbus 2.1 interface, weighs 120g and is compatible with Windows Vista/XP/2000/Mac OS X 10.1. The 20GB version is to retail at 125$ while the 40GB will retail for 230$. However Japan is the only country where the device is available until now.
