*Updated* AGEIA takes PhysX mobile

By: (more) | Posted: Aug 23, 2007 3:34 am

AGEIA has announced that they're taking its PhysX PPU technology to the notebook market with the new PhysX 100M mobile processor. AGEIA is actually showing it at the Leipzig Games Convention which is happening right now. No word on partners as yet, but apparently the new PPU is available in system now.

We're not sure how significant this is, as AGEIA hasn't exactly managed to get a lot of game support as yet. However, it is currently the only PPU option on the market, as we've yet to see any kind of physics related hardware or software solutions to become available from AMD and Nvidia.

"AGEIA is fully committed to delivering the most intensely realistic gaming and entertainment experience to PC gamers," said Manju Hegde, CEO of AGEIA Technologies. "We are enabling enthusiasts to enjoy games their way: whenever and wherever they want. AGEIA PhysX Mobile Technology further expands our position in the gaming market and we look forward to seeing new laptops bring gamers the freedom to enjoy incredible physics action on the go."

Let's hope they can deliver, as anyone that spent the money on a PhysX card must be disappointed with the software support. In game physics are great, but with no game support it's really hard to see why people would consider investing in the hardware. Maybe the new Unreal engine will bring around the change that AGEIA needs.
