Dell first with Ageia PhysX M100?

By: (more) | Posted: Aug 24, 2007 9:10 am

Engadget has scored some info about the upcoming Dell XPS M1730 notebook which will launch on Monday if their sources are right. It's also one of the first notebooks to feature the new mobile PhysX M100 card from Ageia. As if that wasn't enough, this 17-inch notebook will feature either a Core 2 Duo T7300 to T7700 or a Core 2 Extreme X7800 CPU.

The graphics horsepower will come from a GeForce 8700M GT and the chipset is the Intel PM965 which supports up to 4GB of DDR2 memory. Other features include an ExpressCard 54 slot, Bluetooth 2.0, DVI, HD audio, a 2Megapixel web camera, a selection of various Wi-Fi and SATA hard drive options and an optional Blu-ray drive.

Dell has also fitted it with an LED backlit keyboard, some flashy lights and a small gaming LCD display which apparently will display various system information. We're not so sure about the retro Compaq style keyboard though, it doesn't really seem to go with the rest of the design. We're not so keen on the off centre touchpad either, but this is a trade-off Dell has done because they've added a numerical keypad. At 4.8kg this is a pretty heavy piece of equipment, but it looks like it might be worth it, if you think you'll remotely be able to afford one.
