Nvidia shift focus to AMD IGPs (MCP78)

Now that Intel have fired off a new range of IGP based Intel chipsets into the market, the Dailytech report that they are now focusing their attention on some IGP chipsets for the latest AMD platforms. Referred to as MCP78, the upcoming lineup will comprise two DX10 equipped GeForce 8 series IGPs as well as an IGP-less variant.

NVIDIA plans to update its budget AMD chipset lineup with two new GeForce 8 series IGP and an IGP-less solutions - MCP78. The new MCP78 features the MCP78 U with a $70-80 build cost, MCP78 S with a $55-65 build cost and the MCP78 D with $50-55 build cost.

 

The MCP78 U and MCP78 S feature a DirectX 10 compatible graphics solution with unified memory architecture and PureVideo HD technology for high-definition HD DVD and Blu-ray playback. NVIDIA touts new Hybrid SLI technology for the new IGP solutions, which it claims to boost performance of discrete GPUs.
