Sony has just announced its latest addition to its T-series of digital cameras, the DSC-T2. It's yet another pocket camera with an 8.1 Megapixel sensor, but what makes it stand out is the fact that has 4GB of built in memory. It will also accept Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo cards just in case 4GB isn't enough for you.

On the back is a large-ish 2.7-inch touch sensitive LCD display which is used as the main controls, although there's still separate buttons for zoom and playback. This is very much a consumer camera and Sony has added easy picture and video sharing features to the camera and it even has a built in scrapbook feature.

It comes supplied with software that will automatically upload your pictures to one of a wide range of online photo services such as Flickr, Photobucket etc, but oddly enough it seems like Picasa is missing from the list. Since this is a consumer model it also features Sony's smile shutter, which means that the camera will automatically take a picture of anyone that smiles at it when it's set to the smile shutter mode and up to six shots can be take without the need to press the shutter button.

It's great to see that Sony has fitted optical image stabilization onto a simpler kind of camera, as even though it only has 3x zoom, this allows for better handheld shots in low-light conditions without flash. The T2 can also be connected to a HDTV via an optional component video cable or HD cradle. Sadly it only captures video at 640x480 in MPEG-1 which is hardly impressive, nor will it allow for very good quality video.

The DSC-T2 will be ship in December and has a suggested retail price of US$350.
