First look at Alienware HD Media Server

By: (more) | Computer Systems News | Posted: Mar 3, 2008 6:11 am

Our friends over at Legit Reviews somehow managed to score a first look at Alienware's upcoming ultra high-end and uber expensive High Definition Media Server (or HDMS for short).

This product is due to come off the assembly line and into consumer hands anytime now and will set you back anywhere from $5000 - $7000 USD - that is two to three times more expensive than most HDTVs, so we're hoping it packs quite a punch for all those dollars.

It looks as if the top end model will be configured with a stunning 4TB of hot swappable hard drive space set up in RAID 5. It is powered by an Intel quad-core processor running with an X38 chipset and it also includes a Blu-ray recorder to make it a truly high-end HD DVR. The base model comes with Windows Vista Home Premium but is upgradable to Ultimate edition.

If you're a home theater PC enthusiasts and have been looking to blow a load of cash, consider this one when it comes out. The only negative side besides price which we can see is the fact that there is no HDMI audio, so even though you spent all those dollars, it will be out of date in just a few months (or weeks?) once HDMI PC audio solutions hit the market - unless it is upgradable somehow?
