3DMark06 world record with CrossfireX

By: (more) | Video Cards News | Posted: Apr 7, 2008 11:03 am

World reknowned overclockers Kinc and Elmor of Nordic Hardware were up to their usual antics on the weekend, only they have something to be extremely proud of as a result of dedicating their time to try and regain the 3DMark crown.

With two ASUS EAH3870X2 TOP cards seated into a P5E64 WS Pro motherboard equipped with a liquid nitrogen cooled Core 2 Extreme QX9650 running at 5.719GHz, they have managed to pump out the world's fastest 3DMark06 result of 32,601 points.

Though this would have instantly put them back into that magic #1 spot on the ORB, the downside is that the C1 stepping QX9650 is not yet accepted meaning that the result can't be published, not until FutureMark updates the ORB with support for this processor. On the upside, you can see via the clickable thumbnail desktop shot below that the result is well and truly legit.

Amazingly, even though the graphics cards were only being air cooled, Kinc and Elmor managed to achieve a monstrous memory clock of 2250MHz DDR thanks to ASUS' choice of 0.8ns Qimonda chips residing on these TOP edition variants. The core clock was also pushed to a very impressive 990MHz.

More details here.
