Upcoming Arc/Sidewinder mice and keyboards from MS

By: (more) | Peripherals News | Posted: Jul 14, 2008 10:56 pm

Brief details and images have emerged on some upcoming peripherals from Microsoft which are expected to launch within the next couple months. Among the most interesting is the wireless Arc Mouse which uses a futuristic 'arc'-like design and is collapsible for portability.

It will become available in two colors - red and black at an affordable price of $59.95.

Microsoft's existing Sidewinder gaming mouse is also set for a bit of a revamp; albeit one that seems to take a couple of steps backwards. Where the original version had the ability to add custom weights, this X5 model becomes lighter and does away with that feature. Also removed is the current sensitivity LCD.

The mouse does however include hardware DPI switching, nine programmable buttons and a quicklaunch shortcut. Thankfully Microsoft have compensated for removing some of the features by adjusting the price down to $59.95.

Also spotted are some images of the upcoming Sidewinder X6; a gaming keyboard which carries with it some rather interesting features. For one, the numpad is detachable and can be added to either side of the keyboard. An additional row of keys are also supplied for the purpose of binding game macros.

Noone has been able to confirm just yet as to what exactly those two large knobs at the top right are. It's been suggested they may be audio volume controls. We'll bring you more details on this keyboard as it gets closer to launch in September at a pricetag of $80 USD.
