Intel's Larrabee architecture revealed

By: (more) | Posted: Aug 4, 2008 4:38 am

Today word has come out about Intels Larrabee tehcnology which is getting ready to compete in the higly competitive graphics card war by the end of 2009. Based on x86 technology, it's going to be extremely interesting to see what exactly Intel are capable of when throwing the technology at modern day games.

Larrabee is expected to compete with the GeForce and Radeon lines of video cards from NVIDIA and AMD/ATI respectively. It's being designed explicitly for general purpose GPU (GPGPU) or stream processing tasks.

As Intel have revealed much of its hidden secrets today, coverage has started showing up which you can find so far at Hexus, PC Perspective and Techgage.

Techgage:-
During a press briefing late last week, Intel discussed their upcoming Larrabee 'visual computing' architecture in much greater detail than ever. Some of what was discussed has been known for a while, but exactly how the architecture works and what it offers hasn't been explored much in the past.

This briefing nicely prefaces the SIGGRAPH conference, which happens next week in Los Angeles, and also Intel's own Developer Forum, occurring in two weeks in San Francisco. Although much was unveiled during last week's briefing, even more may be covered at IDF.
