Palit HD 4850 Sonic Edition gets a closer look

By: (more) | Posted: Aug 7, 2008 2:47 pm

We were briefly introduced, to Palit's custom designed HD 4850 masterpiece, earlier this week.

The Palit HD 4850 Sonic Edition, as it is known amongst its peers, has been gracious enough to pose in some images that come, with courtesy, from the Palit Community Forum.

Increased cooling potential, being the most obvious enhancement, is taken care of by an apt, dual-slot, solution which accepts the aid of two heat pipes to regulate thermals attributes. The sample results provided by the source, indicate that Palit's cooling solution may reduce full load temperatures by almost 20%, when compared to a reference HD 4850 SKU, whilst improving on acoustics too.

The proudly placed 8-pin PCIe power connector, is an upgrade from reference HD 4850 solutions. It strives to allow for increased overclocking potential, thanks to uplifted power delivery. A 3-phase GPU and 1-phase memory PWM fusion, helps this aim along on its way.

The HD 4850 Sonic Edition, clearly, wants to extrude its prowess in the above image and boasts factory overclocked speeds of 685 MHz and 2000 MHz for the GPU and the 512 MB GDDR3 memory, respectively.

This isn't the first and, it won't be the last, but it is genuinely positive to now see AMD's AIBs actively stepping up to the challenge of creating non-reference solutions, thereby, creating some diversity in this exciting marketplace.
