Futuremark® OverclocKing 2008 Provides a Glimpse of the Potential of Future ASUS Motherboards
Taipei, Taiwan (Nov 20, 2008) - The inaugural Futuremark® OverclocKing 2008 competition drew to a close with the announcement of the winners after an intense online battle amongst over 16,600 participants worldwide, establishing it as the largest gathering of overclockers in competition ever held. The event threw a spotlight on the overclocking capabilities of ASUS motherboards, specifically the ASUS Striker II Extreme, which was the weapon of choice for the top two overclockers throughout the 14 day competition.
ASUS Motherboards-Built For Overclocking Performance
Throughout the fierce competition, two contestants emerged from the rest as true overclocking champions, with the "thechosenwon" posting a score of 29,409-therefore clinching the title of Futuremark® OverclocKing 2008 champion-and "giorgioprimo" making his mark in a close second place with 28,779. Pushing their ASUS Striker II Extreme motherboards to the limit and posting their results online through the Futuremark® Online Result Browser (ORB), they demonstrated their capabilities and the massive overclocking potential of ASUS motherboards to the overclocking scene.
As the recommended competition hardware for the Futuremark® OverclocKing 2008, a smorgasbord of ASUS motherboards were used throughout the competition. Amongst them, the ASUS Striker II Extreme managed to post performance scores close to the latest range of motherboards from ASUS that support the newest Intel® Core™ i7 Extreme processor. The ASUS Striker II Extreme went on to lead a field that included the ASUS P5Q PRO, ASUS Rampage Formula, ASUS P5Q, and the ASUS P5Q Deluxe. This not only demonstrated the superior overclocking potential of all current ASUS motherboards, but also provided a glimpse of the limitless possibilities and extreme performance that future ASUS hardware can provide to end-users.
The Preferred Choice of Overclockers Worldwide
ASUS motherboards are the top choice for DIY enthusiasts and overclockers around the world, and the Futuremark OverclocKing 2008 shows that ASUS is not just committed to developing products that meet the demands of the consumer market, but also to exceed the expectations of power users through technological innovation and performance. Motherboards such as the ASUS Rampage II Extreme and the recently launched ASUS P6T DELUXE feature exclusive innovations such as the 16+2 phase VRM design for QPI/Memory controller inside the CPU. With high quality power components such as low RDS (on) MOSFETs, Ferrite core chokes with lower hysteresis loss and 100% Japan-made high quality conductive polymer capacitors-ultimate durability, power efficiency and performance are ensured.
The ASUS Rampage II Extreme further boasts features such as the Extreme Engine with ML Caps for dynamic multi-phase power management, TweakIt for on-the-fly overclocking adjustments via a miniature joystick, and Probelt which eliminates the guesswork for testing voltages during overclocking via 8 clearly identified sets of detection points. The ASUS P6T DELUXE features TurboV-an advanced overclocking tool that utilizes a micro-controller to provide precise overclocking adjustment, allowing users to conveniently adjust the CPU ratio (multiplier) for instant CPU upgrades and real-time performance enhancements. TurboV provides adjustment to the NB voltage, NB-PCIe voltage, CPU PLL voltage and DRAM voltage in 0.02V micro-intervals. These precise overclocking options make it easier to fine-tune overclocking settings without exiting the operating system or rebooting. This allows users to achieve new overclocking records "on-the-fly".
ASUS is a leading company in the new digital era. With a global staff of more than eight thousand and a world-class R&D design team, the company's turnover for 2007 was 6.9 billion U.S. dollars. ASUS ranks among the top 10 IT companies in BusinessWeek's "InfoTech 100", and has been on the listing for 11 consecutive years. ASUS was also selected by the Wall Street Journal Asia as No.1 in quality and service in Taiwan.
