Nexus NX-8060 600-watt True Power Modular PSU
Final Thoughts
The days are long gone when a power supply is a simple purchase where you just toss out a few bucks and get whatever the local shop happens to have on hand. With systems becoming more power hungry and enthusiast rigs setting new levels of power requirements, you simply MUST consider your needs and buy accordingly while still leaving enough headroom for upgrades down the road.
For those with heavy duty productivity machines, those with dual-processors, or those with upwards of a mid-level enthusiast box, you will be well served with the Nexus NX-8060 PSU. With the modular design and very stable power levels across all rails, this model should fit the bill for a large group of users. With a 600W rating, you will have ample power for your current components and still have enough room for some future purchases before having to replace it.
Pricing for this model falls in the area of US$160, so it is competitive with other power supplies in this power group. Also consider that others generally do not give you the option of additional power connectors for multiple processor motherboards. Simply put, you will not have to totally break the bank to afford this power supply.
While testing, we made sure to pay special attention to the amount of noise coming from this unit. At idle you cannot hear the fans at all. Under load we still had to get right next to the PSU to know that the fan was running. While we did not have a decibel meter on hand to physically test the amount of noise, you can rest assured that during use you will likely not hear a peep from this thing.
Bottom line... If you are looking for a new power supply and are not willing to shell out well over US$300 for a mega-power beast, then take a look at the NX-8060 from Nexus. It offers very stable power across all voltage rails and is incredibly silent. Add to this a modular design that makes cable management a breeze and you will find yourself with a winner.
